This post has been in the making since October! An idea I had after reading the July 2011 issue of ELLE Magazine’s, Lust in Translation featuring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. I wasn’t sure I could pull off a sexy editorial styled shoot, but with the assistance of some very talented friends here it is!! I owe a HUGE thank you to the two who pulled it off, Carlee Cornelius and Levi Wilde, to my wonderful stylist Victoria Wilfong, videographer, Adam Drescher, lighting assistant, Donny Guerreo, and wardrobe styling by Karina Farias of Pink Couture! Canvas On Demand

I love great service! In fact I get excited when someone takes the time to ask me about my day, get to know me a little better, or even make small talk. When my last print order didn’t go as planned, the gals at Canvas on Demand made sure that everything was perfect! I’m not talking the difference between a 1 inch wrap vs. a 1.5 inch wrap , more importantly my delivery date. Being my first major canvas order I was hesitant to hit submit thinking that once I hit that button my order was out of my hands, not the case. The next day I received a friendly email for COD regarding image size and logos, once we finalized the details my order was off to production. There was one detail that was left in the air, when my prints would arrive. After a couple weeks I called COD to track my orders as my studio open house was less than a week away. I was told that they had just left production and would ship the next day, however they would not make it in time. I was devastated…After a brief hold my awesome COD gal came back with the best news I heard all month, she told me my canvases would be at my studio by 1pm the next day! WOW! Stellar service! I can honestly say I have never received such fantastic, open minded, service anywhere! It didn’t stop there, I recently placed a second order with COD, and got a super sweet gal named Kayla, she was complimentary, kind, and very accommodating to all my questions and requests. I highly recommend Canvas on Demand for all your canvas products!

It’s been one week since I started my “new career” well not really new, per se, but new in the sense that it is now my exclusive career. For over 3 years I have been building my photography business from the ground up and working full time as a retail manager for 2 very large corporations. Since I was little I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, I lived in a neighborhood full of kids with a large apple orchard at the end of the block. One day they dozed that orchard and began building a housing development, sure I was bummed that they dozed my favorite hide and seek spot, but excited to snag all the scrap materials to make little trinkets and things to sell. Okay, so needless to say that plan failed, no one wanted a 3 sided bird house made from scrap 2 by 4′s, but people were excited to see my creations…re-wind a few years earlier when I first learned the power of sales and how to make chocolate milk…can you guess where this story is going? I made a gallon of chocolate milk in the biggest 1970′s orange Tupperware bowl and happily went door to door selling ladles of milk to my neighbors…what was I thinking?…don’t most kids sell lemon-aid, not me I was selling chocolate milk! I have always been unique, and I don’t mean that in a conceded way, trust me I was the most awkward, gawky kid around! I thrive on originality, which is tough to do in this industry, the photography business is not about re-inventing the wheel, but rather capturing new ways to experience it…There are millions of photographers out there all striving to be unique and original, I just want to create art, and to create it with intent.

I’ve been reading Linchpin, by Seth Godin and I have a notebook filled with all the inspiring quotes he says throughout. I recommend this book to anyone building a business, his words are thought-provoking, moving, and inspiring! This book truly changed my life, it gave me the strength to leave “the factory” i.e. the everyday workforce and make a change. Seth describes art as “a personal gift that changes the recipient, the medium doesn’t matter, the intent does. If there is no change, there is no art, if no one experiences it, there can be no change.” I believe that in order to truly experience art you must be “emotionally-centric” I feel this to be my sixth sense, if you believe in that sort of thing.

It’s taken a lot of courage to leap into the unknown, but I’m here and I’m doing it! I hope I can inspire others to follow their dreams and fulfill that desire to create! From the words of Seth Godin “Your work is to create art that changes things, to expose your humanity in such a way that you are truly indispensable.”

Newborns are not exactly my niche, but when Erin and Colby asked me if I would capture images of their growing family, how could I say no. I have known Erin for a few years and was delighted when we started planning a year in sessions for her family! I owe Mary Collier from MKC Photography some serious props for assisting me with this little guy, seriously she is a “newborn whisperer” Colt was asleep and mold-able within a few minutes! Enjoy!
